Stopped in a couple times to see Bob at Troy Meadows Camp ground. He was slumming it for two weeks
I Went up Nine Mile as far as Granite Knob Meadows the first trip. Went through Walker Pass past Kernville and Johnsondale to Freeman Grove then back over the Kern Plateau by way of Sherman Pass and down Nine Mile. Basically I was testing out my new Grand Cherokee. Did some good mountain grades and some dirt. Works very nicely, ended up at 24.6 mpg for various terrains. Hope to get better on long freeway type drives. Second trip I figured out how to bring Mya with minimal damage. At Powell Meadows I thought she was bothering me because of the bears when she wanted me to turn my headlamp on and check out her rodent. It was still alive when I turned out the lights and gone in the morning

The Freeman Grove of Giant Sequoia were supposed to be open again July 1st, the 22nd they were still closed. Since the closure notice was no longer valid I started in on the trail. Near the grove I ran into a forest fighter from Idaho on his way out and was informed they were falling trees in the area and it was still closed. His group was helping clean out trees from a 2012 fire which had gotten to the grove. There was a nearby fire near Castle Rock but they weren't on the line at the time. Twice in a month denied access.
